Poor Treatment of Vietnam Veterans
The media’s change in coverage and their depiction of American Vietnam soldiers led to bad treatment of troops. Many soldiers were deemed lowly scum and called “baby killers”, “crazy vets”, and “drug taking worthless spineless garbage” right to their faces.
Because of this, many businessmen did not hire soldiers because the businessmen feared they would lose customers if they did. Many soldiers became homeless, contributing further to the lowly opinion of them.
Studies show that 3 out of 4 Vietnam veterans believe that the media was the reason for their mistreatment. Nowadays, vets are thought of more highly, but many people still think wrongly of them because of the horrible depiction of the Vietnam soldier that the TV sent throughout the US.
